Commuting On A Scooter
Whether you’re trying to save money on gas or trying to save the environment, a scooter is an economical, environmentally-friendly, and efficient way to get to work. Not to mention they’re easy to ride, can be parked anywhere, and are super-affordable! However, there are some differences between scooters and other vehicles in safety guidelines and riding practices, which is why we here at Revel 42 Golf Carts & Powersports are committed to making sure you commute safely. Read on for some tips on how to do that, and if you want to know more, contact our stores in Raleigh and Wilmington, North Carolina, today!
Route Planning
One of the first steps is to plan a route that won’t be too dangerous, or even illegal, to ride your scooter on. Freeways and highways are high-speed and most scooters aren’t equipped to keep up or keep you safe on these routes. Luckily, Google Maps offers an “avoid highways” option while mapping, which should make this easy. Do remember that your scooter doesn’t count as a bicycle, so avoid bike paths!
Keep Navigation On
When possible, use a Bluetooth® earpiece to make sure you can hear your GPS instructions, since the road can be so noisy. This will also help protect your ears, since high speed driving outside of an enclosed cab can cause hearing damage. Make sure your earpiece fits comfortably under your helmet, of course—no sense having accurate directions if it means you need to be unsafe! If possible, set your navigation to give you advance warning of turns. This will let you get to the correct lane sooner so you can maneuver to your turn safely!
Parking Planning
Your scooter is at some risk for weather damage or theft while you’re busy at work, so consider investing in a disc-brake lock or chain lock. If you’re leaving any items with your scooter, like a helmet or emergency gear, you’ll also need to secure that. You should also try to park away from busy roads or alleys to avoid possibly getting bumped by another vehicle.
Throw on a weatherproof cover once everything is locked up to help protect your scooter from rain, hail, and even high winds and sun. Make sure it folds easily for convenient storage, and that it fastens securely into place so those winds won’t just run away with it.
We hope these tips help you and your scooter stay safe during your workday! If you have any questions, or if you’d like to see the scooters we have for sale, contact us at Revel 42 Golf Carts & Powersports. We proudly serve the people of Clayton and Cary, North Carolina—let us serve you today!
