With the weather warming up, it’s probably time to hit the trails and start exploring new areas with your ATV. However, if this is going to be your first time on the trails, then there are some tips that you’ll probably want to be following, which Revel 42 Golf Carts & Powersports has provided for you below. Or, stop by our location in Garner, North Carolina to ask us more questions about riding your machine. You can also check out some of the 4 wheelers we have for sale right now.

Ride Prep

Before you even hit the trails, you’ll want to take some steps to ensure you’re going to have a safe and productive ride. Wear all the proper safety gear, from durable clothes to a proper helmet and tough riding boots. Also consider bringing along an emergency kit with items like a wrench, knife, fire starter, flashlight, poncho, and extra gas. Some of these will be for patching minor maintenance issues and others will be for survival purposes, in the event help might take a while to catch up with you. This will be especially important as you get farther away from big cities like Raleigh.

Inspect your 4 wheeler before you hit the trails, and consider putting your ride on hold if there’s a problem area that needs to be addressed first. This should include all moving parts and your tires, as well as the various components of the engine.

As a safety measure, you’ll always want someone to know where you are. We highly recommend finding a riding buddy or two, so if something serious does happen, someone can go get help. If you have no riding buddy and for whatever reason must ride alone, let someone back home know where you’re going to be and what time to expect you home. This could be a friend, family member, or even a park ranger or other trail worker.

Respect the Riding Area

All around the cities of Cary and Clayton, you’re going to find some great ATV riding trails that you’ll probably want to explore. Once you reach the trail, there’s nothing more important than simple common courtesy. Many of the riding trails that you frequent might be near important natural landmarks and take you around protected forests and parks. We want to preserve these areas for future riders and visitors, so stay on the designated trail unless the trail owners and managers give you permission to venture off the trails.

Don’t litter and clean up any other messes you might make along the way, say from an emergency repair. We also encourage going the extra mile and cleaning up any trash you see along the way (maybe bring along some gloves for this). You might also want to consider clearing away other debris that might hinder other riders, like a log. Be courteous to the land and your fellow riders and you’ll cover much of the unspoken rules of riding.

Share the Path

Speaking of your fellow riders, you’ll probably run into some on the trail. Keep in mind that when you do encounter another rider, they might be at a vastly different skill level than you. If they’re trying to pass, try to move over to the side so they can squeeze by safely. If you’re the one doing the passing, don’t pressure a slower rider into doing something that might lead to an accident. Give every rider space to turn and brake. Give other riders some space in general, and you probably won’t run into as many stressful situations.

With all this in mind, you’re probably dying to hit the trails! However, you might also still be looking for the right 4 wheeler for sale.
